How to hope in God no matter what comes your way

Believe God’s Word

When hardship comes your way, believe that God is your true source of hope and walks with you in your suffering.

As you sit in the thicket of a trial, it’s easy to forget who we are really at war with. The enemy comes to destroy lives, wreck havoc on your faith, and confuse God’s children.

Yet, the Bible reminds us God is faithful to journey with us in seasons of suffering and longs to hear the cries of His children.

Therefore, use this opportunity to trust that God is working and has a plan. Trust that the King of Kings is making a way for you and walks with you in your hardship.

As He’s shown throughout Scripture, God is faithful to His children and listens to their cries for help. No matter what comes your way, He’s with you.

Renew your mind with God’s Word

God has already overcome the darkness and when we renew our mind with His Word, we’re taking practical steps to guarding our heart against discouragement and discontent.

Remind yourself of God’s faithfulness by regularly reading Scriptures, such as these Bible verses on hope below. When we read Scripture, the hope of God starts to take root in our soul.

Then, when we’re faced with trials, we can reflect on Scripture and find hope in God despite our bleak circumstances. The Bible is a safe place to rest and revive your weary spirit no matter what you face.

Become a prayer warrior

Use this season of hardship to stay connected to God in a position of prayer.

As you pray, pour out your sorrows to the Lord and trust that He cares for you more than you can ever imagine. Trust that as you pray war room prayers, God is already working on your behalf.

Consider the following forms of prayer as you pour out your heart to Him:

  • Journaling: Start a prayer journal to confess your brokenness and sorrows before the Lord. God is mighty and can take your cries for help and groans of agony. Then, once this storm has passed, your journal will help you remember of God’s strength during this season of hardship.
  • Pray Scripture: pray God’s Word back to Him as you confidently trust He’s working.
  • Take a prayer walk: when your family or family members are in crisis, consider taking a prayer walk through your home. Pray over your home and each family member and trust God as He works on your behalf.
  • Praise the Lord: When life feels impossible and we’re wrestling with our circumstances, praising God will point you to hope. Even if it feels unnatural, I love to whisper quietly to myself, ” I praise you, Lord, for ….” and start naming the reasons I am thankful for God’s steadfast character. This quickly reminds me of all the reasons I have to hope, and takes my eyes off my own issues. This has been something I practice for years and has brought me comfort and hope no matter what I face.

As you press into the Lord for strength and hope, believe the Lord can shoulder your burdens and is faithful to hear the cries of His children.
