12 Bible Verses for Anxiety and Fear

As moms, we have so much to think about, don’t we?  From the daily decisions of what to make for dinner and which shows our kids can watch to deciding whether to take the kids to the clinic or let them sleepover at a friend’s house – our minds are in constant motion.

Sometimes, we lie down at night, close our eyes and the reels in our minds keep running.

We worry, considering every possible outcome and imagining catastrophe around every corner. We can’t relax because our minds won’t rest.

Have you been there?

I know I have.  After the birth of my son, I struggled with postpartum depression, manifested by anxiety that gripped my heart with fear and froze me in my tracks.

If our oldest child was spending the night with her grandparents, I struggled to go to sleep because of fear, as if my presence somehow always kept her safe.

It was one of the most difficult times of my life.

During that time and with the help of some wise counselors, I began to fight back against the fear I felt.

How to Renew Your Minds With Scripture

The key was to accept that I was going to think about something and decide to replace the anxious thoughts running through my mind with truths that set me free.

Don’t think for a moment it was easy.  Renewing our minds never is, but with God’s help, it’s not only possible, it’s powerful.

Romans 12:2 tell us that renewing our minds transforms us.

I know it changed me, one repeated promise of God at a time.  Each time an anxious thought crossed my mind, I stopped it and replaced it with God’s word or a prayer of thanksgiving to him for who he is and what he’s done.

If you’re struggling with anxiety, I encourage you to do the same.  To help you, I’ve made a list of Bible verses that help calm my fears and focus my mind on Christ instead.

Some are promises; others are prayers.  All are powerful.

After all, “all scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

Let the word of God help train your mind to trust him.  The following Bible verses can help!
