Scriptures for Fear: Trusting God When You’re Anxious

God will never leave nor forsake you.

Even in your darkest hour, you are never alone.  God is there, holding you in the midst of pain, and will never abandon you.

He will uphold you with His strength when yours is depleted, and will provide hope when all seems lost.

“It is the LORD who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” Deuteronomy 31:8

Our troubles are momentary.

Although the pain of this Earth may seem too much to bear, your troubles are momentary because this world is not your home.  God is preparing a place of peace and joy for all believers, and you can rest easy knowing it will be free from pain and fear.

“So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self his being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

God has a plan for you.

All hope may seem lost, but God has a plan for each and every life. While that plan is not free from disappointment or sorrow, there is comfort knowing that nothing takes Him by surprise or is too big for Him to handle.

He will lead you and guide you through this life when you fix your eyes on Him through the power of the Holy Spirit.

“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.'” Jeremiah 29:11

God will restore the brokenhearted.

When darkness threatens to consume and you’re afraid for the future, trust that His light will pierce through the darkest night.

God won’t leave you alone in fear, but His faithful love will rescue you from the pit of despair and restore your joy in Him.  Even when life is forever changed and your worst nightmare comes true, there are new beginnings when you find your hope in Jesus.

Then shall the young women rejoice in the dance, and the young men and the old shall be merry. I will turn their mourning into joy; I will comfort them, and give them gladness for sorrow.” Jeremiah 31:13

How to remember God’s hope when the darkness comes

When life is falling apart and fear is knocking at the door of your heart, you can stand firm on the promises of God!

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2

This verse reminds us to renew our minds in God’s promises and stand firm in His wisdom to get us through.

On the hard days:

  • Reflect on God’s promises in Scripture– re-read your favorite Bible verses or do a search on Bible Gateway.com to find verses that anchor your soul to God’s faithfulness.
  • Repeat biblical affirmations to yourself to remind your weary heart that God has already overcome it all. When we force our minds to remember these promises, it retrains our brains to rely on God’s truth instead of focusing on our current circumstances.
  • Use Scripture journaling to reflect on your emotions and struggles. Again, this renews your mind in God’s truth and points you back to the hope of the Lord.
