7 Bible Verses for the Hurting Heart: Comfort from Scripture

Everywhere I turn, I am bombarded with a loved one suffering in one way.  A sweet friend is battling anxiety and on the verge of a breakdown. Another friend is on the brink of a foreclosed home. Yet another continues to fight infertility one day at a time. They desperately need the comfort of these Bible verses for the hurting heart.

The world is hurting and crying out for help. Our modern society, whether they realize it or not,  desperately needs the hope of the Lord to ease the aches and pains of this life. My heart breaks for my friends {and even strangers} as they hurt and I long for solutions for the problems they face.

Wanting to ease their pain, I pray for words of wisdom and to somehow be a ray of hope in their darkness.

Yet I am not the solution or the hope they need.  They don’t need a to-do-list of ways to overcome these troubles.

They need Jesus.

HE is their light in the darkness.

HE provides shelter from the storm.

HE alone can lift the fog of depression.

HE can heal the hurting and mend broken dreams.

HE, the author of all hope and the giver of life, is faithful!

Even if  you’re in the pit of despair today, please know THERE IS HOPE AND THERE IS HEALING!

Then, soak in God’s promises and rest in the peace of the Holy One who has already overcome it all!

Rest in the hope of the Lord and trust God to meet you in your brokenness. He is faithful!

TAKE REFUGE and find rest in His power. Allow Him to fill you with peace and even joy in His presence.

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.  I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and fortress, my God in whom I trust.”

Psalm 91:1-2

When you want to stay complacent in your pain and suffering, STAND UP and draw strength from Him.

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.

Ephesian 6:10

SEEK HIM and cry out for help, knowing He is faithful to listen to your plea.

Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.

Psalm 107:6

TRUST that the hurt won’t last forever.

He brought them out of the darkness and the deepest gloom and broke away their chains.

Psalm 107:14

BE HEALED AND RESTORED by the love and grace of the Lord.

In my anguish I cried to the Lord, and he answered by setting me free.

Psalm 118:5

Living in God’s hope and perfect peace

Friend, whatever reason you are suffering and hurting today, you are not alone on your journey.

There is a God who loves you completely and wants to heal your deepest hurts. He wants to experience His perfect peace and surrender your burdens to him.  Lay each burden at His feet and release yourself from the yoke of hardship. Trust that the Giver of Life has come to heal, restore, and redeem your brokenness.

May these Bible verses for the hurting heart bring you comfort and peace on your journey towards healing and restoration!

  12. Dear Sarah Ann,

I am so thankful once again how God has designed for our paths to cross! My heart is hurting from a wound caused recently by someone very close to my heart. I ask that you would pray for me and for this person…that God would heal our relationship so that we can walk together in victory. It is the desire of both our hearts, and I’m thankful to say there is repentance on their part.

It is by no accident that you chose to share this post today in the IBN group for promos, links, and more. God knew I needed this comfort and encouragement to seek Him spoken into my heart today. Thank you!

    God bless you,
    Laurie

  13. to say that i am hurt would be the biggest understatment ever. broken, sad, confused, with no a single sole to talk to. depressed. I am a wife and mother of 3 kids age 30 and I can honestly say I have been through pain of the unimaginable. my hubby suffered through brain cancer last year that kept him out of work, and away from the kids for quite sometime. God was with us every step of the way never leaving our side. To God be the glory my husband is healed and cancer free. Praise God. Unfortunatly, our many marriage issue weren’t healed in the process more like delayed. He is leaving me as of today and i haven’t a clue what to do. Needless to say turning 30 was the hardest year of my entire life. I wonder how can I continue on being a single parent financially, emotionally, even physically. I worry about failing, and letting our close friends and family down. Being a dissappointment. But most of all I worry about my kids age 3,4,5 letting them down. I pray alot. But I know I could be doing alot more. I’m sad. In pain. In tears. But I work a full time job that requires me to be uplifting, and encouraging, and spot on at all times. So I hide my pain, my fears. I cry out to the Lord, and I know he hears my cry. Just seems like in this moment Im so alone. I came across this article today…and it totaly blew my mind and although I know this is a previous post I know somehow that this came to me at the right time. I truly believe God wanted me to see this today. So I just wanted to say thank you. For allowing God to use you to speak to me. I have hope that with God by my side I will make it through this storm.

    1. Wow, my friend! That is a heavy load you are carrying, and although it seems like life has defeated, God has already overcame this victory for you! You are exactly right in that He hears your pain, He knows your cry, and He holds your hand as you walk this rocky path. I am on my knees for you, claiming victory in your life and strength through Him. May you never give up hope in His goodness and His power, believing He’ll never leave your side. I’m also praying for your kids as they deal with the change and transition of dad leaving. May they feel God’s love as He comforts and loves them during this difficult time. Please stop by and let me know how you are! Praying for you!!!!

  14. Carol White says:

I have a heavy heart for a family member whose adult child took his own life about two months ago. There are several children, and a spouse that is hard to deal with. Please pray for this situation.

  16. I want to sincerely thank whoever wrote this. Im in the middle of a very tough time in life. A time of new transitions, letting go of every single hope, dream and relationship that I held on to. Surrendering it all to the Lord and in the process of letting go of bitterness and pain. My name is Kirsten. Please pray for me that I will continue to trust the Lord and fond comfort in his steadfast love so that I may grow from this. I recently had a break up of someone I loved dearly for three years. I was battling anxiety and depression and unfortunantley it took too much of a toll on my relationship. I know God can take our ugly and make it beautiful but I have a hard time remembering that at some moments. I simply googled verses for hurt and this post came up and helped me. Thank you

    1. Kristen,

I am praying for you! God knows your pain, your path and WILL refine your brokenness. May you feel His presence in a new way and trust in His unfailing love!
