What is the abundant life God has for me?

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” John 10:10

Just as that verse says, God sent Jesus so we could know what it means to have life, and “have it to the full.” Also wrapped up in this verse is the fact that Satan, the thief, comes to rob us of that very blessing. In order to ward off the enemy and receive the life God has for you, He wants you to seek Him and have a deep relationship with Him and let His love invade every part of your life.

Having a relationship with God will bring forth joy, hope, peace, and strength. Those characteristics overpower the feelings of lack, emptiness, and discontentment which all point to the very opposite of having an abundant life. The more you seek to know Him, the more you will make Him known… this is the meaning of life.

The abundant life God has for you also involves living Your life for Him, honoring Him with your life, and walking in obedience in accordance to His Word. Through His goodness, grace, and mercy He reciprocates through blessing you in your life here on earth, while preparing an eternal place for you in heaven.

Of course there are times when walking out life to the full seems nonexistent, or that every bad thing that can happen does. Other times there are lies planted in our heads that we subconsciously begin to believe are true.

Dear sister, if there’s one thing I know for sure… the enemy is cunning, and he can whisper some pretty nasty lies in our ears, but our God is stronger. Here are three of the most commonly believed lies by Christian women today.

3 Lies that keep you from living your best life as a Christian woman

Lie #1: I, in my own strength, am enough to manifest happiness and live an abundant life.

Can we be honest for a moment? I don’t know about you but I’ve been in that train of thinking that I’m in control of my own happiness and that everything I’m doing in life is because of me. Even as a professing woman of God, there were times when I rarely read my Bible, rarely prayed more than a popcorn prayer, and everything seemed to go super smooth. But the reality was that I had left God out and prioritized Him in a way that put myself first.

In these moments I was honestly believing the lie that I could manifest my own happiness, but that’s simply not true. Of course it doesn’t take much to be humbled and realize we need God, always. Without God’s help, our identities can become lost and far from our true identity in Christ.

It is in Christ that we can truly live the life God has planned for us and on our own, we wander away from God’s best. Worldly things creep in and lead you to believe that life is good, when in fact, it only robs you of joy and peace. Choose to lay selfishness to the side and depend upon the God who supplies your every need.

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13

Lie #2: I am a slave to my failures and shortcomings of the past.

This lie likes to rear its ugly head when we’ve encountered a situation or circumstance that leaves us feeling less than, or like we can’t measure up to something. Whether it’s in marriage, parenting, work, or friendships, things will happen that will take us intentionally seeing it from a forgiven perspective.

When we choose to see if from any other way rather than from the freedom we have in Christ Jesus, we are believing the lie. Tell yourself that, “In Christ I am set free from shame and condemnation, and God’s grace has wiped my slate clean.”

Remind yourself that God gives you strength to try again and forgives your missteps, no matter how large they may be.

“You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.” Romans 6:18

Lie #3- God cares about my happiness. As I long as I’m happy, I am free to pursue my bliss.

God loves you more than you can imagine, but He also knows there’s more to living your best life than fleeting happiness. Looking at the world around us, it would have you believe that it takes happiness to truly pursue something in life, or that in pursuing your dream, it will bring you true happiness. Either way you look at it, it’s a twist on how God really feels about you as well as how to see the One who holds your plans in His hands.

God longs for you to be filled completely with Him and to surrender to His path, not just seek happiness and earthly pleasures. We must choose to live with intention and live out God’s plans for us. We must also understand the real meaning behind happiness and its false security.

There’s more to life than being happy.

The best life is one lived through understanding what it means to have the joy of the Lord and surrendering to God’s plans no matter where the journey make take us.

“You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”  Psalm 16:11

Living your best life as a Christian woman

Now that you’re aware of the lies of this world that long to keep you stuck and paralyze you from living your identity in Christ, it’s time to take action.

Be on guard and recognize these lies for what they are, falsehoods that keep you from living an abundant life and keep you from following God’s best for you here on earth.

Combat the lies of the enemy with God’s Word. Therefore, that means you need to read God’s Word to know the truth and have the truth rooted in your heart.

Then, stand firm in spiritual warfare, relying on Scripture promises to carry you through weak moments as you press into God for strength.

Finally, live on purpose and take intentional steps to walk with God each day. As you renew your mind with His truth, you’ll discover the joy of a soul anchored to His promises and hold this world with loose hands. You’ll no longer crave attention or notoriety here on earth, but tread lightly in a world that’s not your home.

Which lie do you struggle with the most? What are tangible ways you can move past it and live for God?
